For cleansing, healing, truth, and new beginnings
- What you will need
- White spiritual candle
- Coconut or eucalyptus oil
- White sage or frankincense
- A small piece of white paper
- A bowl of sea salt
- A clear glass of water
- A fireproof holder
- A quiet, clean space
Phase 1 - Cleanse your space
- Begin by physically tidying your space. Clutter holds stagnant energy and will weaken the ritual. Open a window briefly to let old air and old energy, out.
- Light your white sage or frankincense incense and carry it slowly around the room, paying special attention to corners where energy tends to collect. Move counter clockwise to banish, or clockwise to invite peace and healing.
- Place the bowl of sea salt in the center of your ritual space. Salt is a powerful purifier, it absorbs negativity and creates a protective boundary. Arrange your candle, water glass, and incense around it.
Phase 2 - Prepare yourself
- Before touching anything, wash your hands with salt water, this is your personal cleansing. As the water runs over your hands, consciously release tension, worry, or heaviness you have been carrying.
- Dress the candle with coconut or eucalyptus oil, rubbing from the base to the wick if drawing something in (healing, guidance, new beginnings), or wick to base if pushing something out (illness, confusion, old cycles). Breathe deeply as you do this.
- On the white paper, write what you are releasing on one side, a habit, a pain, a situation, a person and on the other side, write what you are calling in. Keep each to one clear, honest sentence.
Phase 3 - Light and surrender
- Light the candle. Take a moment of silence. White light is connected to the divine and to higher truth, as the flame rises, visualize a column of pure white light descending from above and filling your body from head to toe.
- Speak your petition aloud three times, first addressing what you release, then what you invite. For example: "I release what no longer serves my highest good. I welcome healing, truth, and a new beginning into my life."
- Hold the paper near the flame (safely) and say: "As this burns, it is done." Then place it in the fireproof holder and let it ash completely. If you prefer not to burn it, tear it into small pieces and dispose of them outside your home.
- Sit quietly for 10-20 minutes. You may pray, meditate, or simply breathe. This is your window for spiritual communication and guidance, pay attention to feelings, images, or thoughts that arise.
Phase 4 - Close and release
- When you feel complete, give thanks, to God, spirit, your ancestors, or whatever higher power you acknowledge. Gratitude seals the ritual and signals that you trust the outcome.
- Snuff the candle, never blow it out. You may repeat this ritual for 3 or 9 consecutive days for a deeper cleanse or healing working, relighting the same candle each time.
- Take the bowl of sea salt and dispose of it outside, ideally at a crossroads, under a tree, or in the earth. It has absorbed what you released and must be returned to the ground. Pour the water outside as well.
Best timing: Perform on a Monday (Moon's day, rules purification, healing, and intuition) or during a new moon for new beginnings, or a full moon for release and deep cleansing. Early morning, just after sunrise, is especially powerful for rituals of truth and fresh starts.
A few extra notes to get the most from this ritual:
Choosing your focus: The white candle is the most versatile of all spiritual candles, it can stand in for any color in a pinch. But it works deepest when your intention is honest and personal. Be specific about what you are releasing and what you are stepping into.
Reading the flame: A tall, steady white flame means strong spiritual presence and a clear channel. A flickering or smoking flame can indicate resistance or unresolved energy around your intention, take a moment to breathe deeper and refocus. A blue tint at the base of the flame is considered a sign of divine or ancestral presence.
For healing specifically: If the ritual is for physical or emotional healing, place both hands around the candle (without touching) after speaking your petition and breathe warmth and light toward the flame for a few moments. Visualize the illness, grief, or wound dissolving in the white light.
9 day working: If you choose the 9 day version, the white candle is especially powerful for breaking old cycles and fully stepping into a new chapter of life, not just a single goal, but a whole transformation.
